We take on demolition in Antioch, a city about 51 miles in a straight line from our Riverbank base. Antioch is the third-most populous city in Contra Costa County, with about 116,000 people. The city sits in the East Bay, along the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. We serve the Central Valley, the Bay Area and Sacramento, and Antioch is one of our East Bay cities. The City of Antioch Building Division issues building permits from the 2nd floor of City Hall, at 200 H Street. Asbestos and demolition notices here go to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, whose nine counties include Contra Costa. That means an Antioch teardown takes two steps on paper: notice to the district, then a permit from the city.
As a demolition contractor serving Antioch, we focus on asbestos removal, interior demolition and full structure demolition. Full structure demolition takes down houses and commercial buildings, with two to three stories as the sweet spot. We also handle concrete demolition, and we do a lot of flooring removal. Our family company began in 1967 as a homebuilder, then spent decades in the flooring business. You can look up both of our licenses, CSLB #247684 and CAL OSHA #507. Elsewhere in Contra Costa County, we take on demolition in Concord too. Every price we give comes after an in-person look at the building, and the estimate is free. To set one up, call (209) 652-9206.

Before any building in Antioch comes down, the Bay Area district gets at least 10 business days' notice. The rule covers every demolition, even one with no asbestos at all. Removing any load-bearing structural member calls for a demolition J#, the district's job number, whatever the structure's size or age. The district lists the J# among the requirements for a city demolition permit. For a house of four or fewer units, the district accepts 72 hours' notice with an additional fee.
Under federal rules, the affected building must be thoroughly inspected for asbestos before demolition or renovation. Section 11-2-303.8.2 of the district's rules waives the full survey for a house of four or fewer units. Ducts, acoustic ceilings, textured walls, stucco and resilient flooring still need sampling and testing if the work will disturb them. We leave the sampling to a certified asbestos consultant and handle the asbestos removal in Antioch ourselves. Cal/OSHA registration is required before asbestos work on 100 square feet or more.
In 1848, John Marsh built a landing here on the San Joaquin River, known as Marsh's Landing. In 1849, the Smith brothers founded a town nearby and named it Smith's Landing. At the town picnic on July 4, 1851, the residents agreed to rename it Antioch. Around 1859, coal turned up in the hills south of town. Mining led to the founding of Nortonville, Somersville, Stewartville and Black Diamond, now Pittsburg. Antioch incorporated as a city in 1872. The El Campanil Theatre opened downtown in 1928, and the Rivertown Art Center is housed in a 1923 bank building.
Census estimates put the median year built for Antioch homes at 1985. The 1990s added the most homes of any decade, about 8,000, or 21 percent of today's total. The 1970s added about 7,000 and the 1980s about 6,600. Homes built before 1980 make up about two in five, and homes built before 1960 about one in seven. On an older house, we plan for asbestos-era materials before a machine starts on residential demolition in Antioch.
Antioch's General Plan says commercial use is concentrated in Rivertown and along major roadway corridors. It names Somersville Road and Auto Center Drive, Hillcrest Avenue, and A Street. The plan calls the uses along the Auto Center Drive and Somersville Road corridor aging and in need of improvement. If a storefront or office space is changing tenants, the old build-out may have to come out. Our interior demolition in Antioch handles strip-outs and tenant improvement demolition, down to the shell.
We break out old slabs, footings and flatwork as part of concrete demolition in Antioch. When the whole building has to go, we handle commercial demolition in Antioch too. On a commercial teardown, asbestos removal comes first and the structure comes down afterward. Buildings that call for heavy high-reach machines go to partners.
Antioch's construction and demolition recycling rules sit in Title 6, Chapter 3, Article II of the Antioch Municipal Code. Tearing down any structure, or part of one, larger than 120 square feet makes the job a covered project. So does every permitted nonresidential alteration, which includes tenant improvements. For a covered project, the demolition permit is not issued until the city approves a waste management plan. At least 65 percent of the nonhazardous debris has to be diverted through reuse, recycling or salvage.
Under the ordinance, demolition applicants must consider deconstruction to the maximum extent feasible. The materials it yields must be made available for salvage before anything is landfilled. When the job is done, the plan records actual quantities, with receipts, weight tags or load tickets as proof. The waste management plan does not waive asbestos requirements, so any asbestos removal still comes first. For a free estimate on an Antioch job, call (209) 652-9206.
